Maharashtra TET paper leak: CM Fadnavis strict, says ‘no one will be spared’

Mumbai: As soon as the paper of Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test TET 2026 was leaked, there was a stir in the entire state. Just a day before the exams, Thane Police busted an inter-state gang and arrested three accused. After this, Pune-based Maharashtra State Examination Council MSCE immediately postponed the examination to be held on June 28. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an SIT investigation.

CM Fadnavis’s strict stance, investigation handed over to SIT   

According to media reports, the government came into action as soon as the news of the paper leak was received. CM Fadnavis constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to get to the bottom of the matter. Its command has been given to Thane Joint Police Commissioner Punjabrao Ugle. The CM also spoke to School Education Minister Dada Bhuse and DGP Sadanand Date. He clearly said that no person involved in this black business will be spared, no matter how influential he is.

Thane Police operation: This is how the accused were caught   

The police had laid a trap in Kongaon, Bhiwandi. Zone 2 DCP Pawan Bansod got intelligence that some people were coming to sell the leaked TET paper. The police laid siege in plain clothes. When the three accused arrived at 11 am on Friday, the police caught them. During the search, four sets of papers that looked like original TET papers were found. Many debit-credit cards were also recovered. It is clear from this that money transactions were taking place digitally.

Gang strings spread to Delhi-Bihar   

This matter is not local, but interstate. The three arrested accused are aged between 28 to 45 years. He came to Maharashtra from Delhi. One accused is from Haryana and two are from Bihar. According to the police, Rs 1.5 crore was demanded for the leaked paper. Now SIT is finding out to whom the papers were to be sold and who is the mastermind. Police teams have also been sent to other states.

What is the further action?   

A case has been registered against the accused under the Indian Justice Code and Maharashtra Competitive Examination Prevention of Unfair Means Act 2024. This is a non-bailable offence. More than 6 lakh students were to appear for the exam at 1,728 centers in 37 districts. MSCE Deputy Commissioner Priya Shinde said that in case of re-examination, neither registration nor fees will be taken from the students.
