Mahershala Ali has reflected on the collapse of Marvel’s long-delayed Blade reboot.
The actor said the failed project ultimately led him to a new film that left him feeling “creatively redeemed.”
After years of training for Marvel’s shelved Blade reboot, Mahershala Ali says the project’s cancellation paved the way for his new action film Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.
Speaking to GQ, he said “When I look at this and ‘Blade,’ I couldn’t have done both, and the reason this even exists is because that project fell apart and Bassam had the time, space, energy, and focus to go and write this and then re-approach me.”
He added “And I was able to use those skills that I had been working on for over a year training for ‘Blade.’ In that way, I feel creatively redeemed on some level, just in my own journey between me, myself, and I.”
Marvel boss Kevin Feige also recently described the failed reboot as one of his biggest disappointments. He said they “didn’t feel confident” and eventually the project was shelved.
