Mahesh Bhatt has spent most of the last 25 years focusing on production. His brief comeback as a director for ‘Sadak 2’ in 2020 had many wondering if he could make a comeback to direction. However, Bhatt has now completely closed that door which confirms the rumors that were spread recently because of Vikram Bhatt.

When he was directly asked whether he was planning to direct again, he clearly said ‘no’ and said, it feels great to talk about films made with so much passion.

In his characteristic philosophical tone, this old director-producer told the above mentioned publication that where there is life, there is spirit. The duplicate director further said, ‘When things are told to you, you have to be careful and then when you have to create content based on a predetermined design, what role is left for the artist?’

He also lamented that the algorithms that push filmmakers towards number-chasing platforms are forcing them to fit into pre-determined moulds. However, expressing hope, he said that surely some courageous person will come forward and become the new ‘Pied Piper’.

During the interview, he praised director Imtiaz Ali’s film ‘Main Vyapar Aaunga’ and called it a turning point.

Alia Bhatt’s father said that I think the time for rebellion has come. He further said that when you work wholeheartedly and understand the pulse of the times, you see a desire and thirst in people for something sensitive, something that touches the heart and connects deeply with their lives. No matter how dark the night is, there always emerge rebels who rewrite the story.

Although he will no longer direct feature films, Bhatt will continue to work as a producer and writer for films. Recently he announced his role as a presenter for the film ‘Naam’. This film is, in a way, a spiritual sequel to his famous 1986 action-drama film (which was also named ‘Naam’).
