EV vs Hybrid: Mahindra XEV 9S or Toyota Innova Hycross, know which family car is better?

EV vs Hybrid: If you are thinking of buying a comfortable and reliable 3-row car for your family, then it has become important to look not just at petrol and diesel but also electric and hybrid options. In this segment, Mahindra XEV 9S and Toyota Innova Hycross emerge as two strong options, which come with low running cost and advanced features.

Design and look
The design of Mahindra XEV 9S is more futuristic and SUV-like, with flush door handles and a wide stance. Whereas Toyota Innova Hycross comes with traditional MPV style, which is better in terms of length and space. However, the look of 9S looks more modern and attractive.

Cabin and features
The XEV 9S gets advanced features like triple screen setup, panoramic sunroof, 16-speaker Harman sound system and wireless charging. The cabin of Hycross is a bit simple, but its ergonomics and physical buttons make it easy to use. It has facilities like JBL sound system and ventilated seats.

Space and comfort
The second and third rows of the Hycross are more comfortable, especially with the captain seats and ottoman function. While features like ventilated seats and boss mode are available in 9S, the space in the third row is a bit limited.

Performance and driving
The XEV 9S is an electric SUV that produces around 280 bhp power and 380 Nm torque, giving it a fast and smooth driving experience. The Hycross has a 2.0L petrol-hybrid engine, which is known for its reliable and comfortable drive, but the performance is not as fast as the EV.

Running cost and price
Running costs for the XEV 9S are around ₹1-4 per km, while in the Hycross it goes up to around ₹5 per km. Talking about price, the 9S (₹20.70–30.20 lakh) is slightly cheaper than the Hycross (₹26.76–32 lakh).

If you want low cost, advanced technology and performance, then XEV 9S is a better choice. With more space, comfort and reliability, Innova Hycross proves to be a perfect family car.
