As per the directions of Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and GLADA Chief Administrator Vikas Hira, GLADA has adopted zero tolerance policy against illegal colonies and buildings. Under this series, strict legal action is also being taken against developers who cheat people by luring cheap plots in illegal colonies.
Following the sealing and demolition orders issued by the Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA, Ludhiana, against illegal buildings, on July 16, the Duty Magistrate, police force and enforcement team of GLADA Regulatory Wing took action to seal and demolish six illegal buildings in village Tharike and Dad. Despite issuing notices, when the developers concerned did not stop the illegal construction work, GLADA took action as per legal process. This operation was successfully completed without any opposition. Officials said that such campaigns will continue in the coming weeks so that construction without permission can be stopped at the initial stage.
GLADA Chief Administrator appealed to the general public to do thorough investigation before purchasing a plot or building in any unauthorized colony. He said that people living in such colonies may have to face serious problems in drinking water, sewage, roads, electricity connections and other basic civic amenities. He advised people to verify the status of the project from the list of approved and regular colonies available on the official website of GLADA before making any investment.
Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA-cum-Eligible Authority, Ludhiana clarified that strict legal action under the Punjab Regional and Urban Planning and Development Act will continue against all persons and developers involved in development without permission, along with demolition and sealing action. He said that the main objective of GLADA is to ensure planned urban development and to protect people’s hard-earned money from getting entangled in illegal projects.
