Big attack on waterlogging in Delhi: Drainage system will change with pre-cast technology, preparations intensified before monsoon

The Delhi government has started preparations on a large scale to deal with the problem of waterlogging that occurs every year during monsoon in the capital Delhi. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Drainage Master Plan announced last year is now being implemented rapidly. In this context, the government has decided to adopt state-of-the-art pre-cast technology for construction and redevelopment of drains, so that the drainage system can be strengthened before the monsoon.

Abandoning traditional methods and relying on modern technology

The Public Works Department (PWD) has issued tenders for the construction of drains using pre-cast technology in waterlogging affected and sensitive areas of the capital. In this technique, special concrete boxes are prepared in advance in the factory or construction yard. Later, by simply digging at the construction site, these boxes are connected with the help of a crane and given the shape of a drain.

According to officials, this technology is not only stronger and durable, but also provides better water drainage capacity than traditional drains.

Got inspiration from Gujarat model

Delhi government has taken inspiration from the successful drainage model of Gujarat for this project. In many big cities of Gujarat, effective drainage system is being operated through pre-cast concrete technology for years. In order to complete the project in a timely manner, special pre-cast boxes are being procured from Gujarat in the initial phase.

Delhi will get four big benefits

  1. construction in record time

While the traditional construction method takes several weeks for the concrete to be poured and strengthened, with pre-cast technology the construction of drains can be completed in a matter of days.

  1. pollution will reduce

Construction materials will not need to be kept on site for long periods of time, resulting in a significant reduction in dust and pollution.

  1. less impact on traffic

Excavation and construction work will not continue on the roads for a long time, which will reduce the problem of traffic jam and provide relief to the people.

  1. Better quality and longer lifespan

Pre-cast boxes, manufactured in a controlled factory environment, are considered to be far superior to conventional manufacturing in terms of quality, strength and finishing.

Big step towards waterlogging free Delhi

The Delhi government believes that this drainage improvement campaign based on modern technology will prove helpful in reducing the old waterlogging problem of the capital to a great extent. If the project is completed within the stipulated time frame, then Delhiites can get a lot of relief from waterlogging on the roads and the problems caused by it during monsoon this year.
