New Delhi: A major road accident occurred in Hungary on Sunday night. About 140 kilometers east of the capital Budapest, a passenger bus went out of control and overturned in a ditch. 12 people have died in this accident, while 10 people are seriously injured.

According to Hungarian police, the incident occurred at around 1 am on the M3 motorway. The bus was going towards Nyirgyhaza. In the initial investigation, it is believed that the driver had fallen asleep, due to which the bus went out of control and fell into a ditch on the roadside.
The bus was registered in Poland. There were 57 passengers and 2 drivers on board. Pictures from the spot after the accident showed the red colored bus badly damaged. The bus was overturned on one side, windows were broken and passengers' luggage and suitcases were scattered on the road.
PM and President expressed grief
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar issued a statement on Facebook expressing condolences to the families of the victims. He said at least 10 people were seriously injured and rescue workers had immediately reached the spot. He also thanked the people engaged in relief work.
Meanwhile, Polish President Karol Nawrocki expressed grief by posting on Instagram. they wrote, "I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the bus accident in Hungary, in which many of our citizens have lost their lives."
Rescue work continues
As soon as information about the accident was received, ambulance and rescue teams reached the spot. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. The condition of many is said to be critical, so the number of deaths may increase.
The police have started investigating the entire matter. The speed of the bus, brakes and duty hours of the driver are also being investigated. Police say that sleep seems to be the primary reason, but the final report will come only after investigation.
