Lucknow. Yogi Government of UP will now conduct Third Party Quality Audit (TPQA) of big infrastructure projects costing more than Rs 100 crore in the state. The responsibility of quality checking of roads, bridges, sewers, water supply and other public utility works has been entrusted to the reputed technical institutions of the country. According to the mandate issued by the Finance Department, IITs have been given the responsibility of examining projects for different divisions of the state.

Under this, IIT Kanpur has got the responsibility of quality checking of projects costing more than Rs 100 crore going on in the districts of Kanpur, Lucknow, Banda, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Agra, Jhansi and Devipatan divisions. Whereas IIT BHU Varanasi will have to examine the projects in the districts of Basti, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Varanasi and Mirzapur divisions. Whereas IIT Roorkee has been given the responsibility of third party audit of the projects of Saharanpur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Meerut and Aligarh divisions.

The objective of this system, started on the initiative of the Planning Department, is to monitor the quality of construction, technical standards and safety standards in big government projects. In a third party audit, an external and independent agency examines the project's design, construction process, materials used and adherence to set standards. This brings transparency in monitoring of projects and reduces the possibility of any kind of conflict of interest.
According to officials, the team of IITs will inspect the project at different stages from its inception to its completion. A detailed report will be prepared on the basis of inspection, after which corrective steps will be taken if necessary.
