US Birthright Citizenship : US President Donald Trump's recent efforts to limit birthright citizenship on the basis of birth have suffered a major setback. Citing the decision of the Supreme Court, a federal judge has put a stay on this decision of the Trump administration. This is a big relief for expatriate citizens living in America.

US District Judge Deborah L. Boardman ordered a preliminary injunction against the Trump administration's executive order, which the administration said was aimed at curbing “birth tourism.” A judge on Wednesday imposed the stay until a class-action lawsuit filed by migrant families and advocacy groups is settled. “The Supreme Court has been clear: Children included in the certified class are ‘citizens by birth,’” Judge Boardman, appointed by President Joe Biden, wrote in Wednesday’s decision.
Under current law, anyone born on US soil is guaranteed citizenship by birth, with a few exceptions. This law has been in effect since 1868, when the 14th Amendment was ratified after the Civil War. However, President Trump has long wanted to eliminate citizenship based on birth. He had also previously issued an executive order stating that children of people who are in the US illegally or temporarily are not American citizens. The Supreme Court rejected that effort in June.
