Mamata Banerjee’s troubles increase, TMC shaken by resignation of former minister Manas Bhuyan
Kolkata: After the crushing defeat in West Bengal elections, the internal crisis of Trinamool Congress is deepening. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has suffered another major political setback. Veteran party leader, former cabinet minister and seven-time MLA Manas Bhuinya has resigned from the primary membership of TMC. Bhuinya has sent his resignation directly to Mamata Banerjee, which has intensified the stir in the political corridors of the state.
Party deviated from principles – Bhuinya
Manas Bhuinya alleged that the party is now moving away from the political values and principles for which he left Congress and joined Trinamool. This is the reason why he decided to leave the party. Unlike other leaders who have rebelled in recent times, Bhuinya did not make any personal attacks or allegations against Mamata Banerjee or Abhishek Banerjee.
refusal to retire
While speaking to the media, Manas Bhuinya clarified that this resignation does not at all mean retirement from politics. He will remain politically active. He did not reveal his next step or strategy. Since then, there is intense speculation among political analysts whether this strong leader of undivided Midnapore will return home to his old party Congress, or will join some new political group in the changing environment of Bengal.
Strong fort of Sabang collapsed
Manas Bhuinya, who represented Sabang assembly constituency for decades, has faced defeat in this election. Bhuinya, who had tremendous organizational hold in Midnapore region, had been in Congress for a long time. Where he played important roles like State Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. After her joining TMC in 2016, Mamata Banerjee’s party got grassroots strength in this entire region. As a reward, he was also given the post of minister in the state cabinet.
Rebellion of MPs and disintegration of TMC
This resignation of Bhuinya has come at such a critical time when TMC is fighting for its survival. Out of the party’s 28 Lok Sabha MPs, 20 MPs have rebelled and now only 8 MPs are seen standing with Mamata Banerjee. Four Rajya Sabha MPs have also resigned from their membership, due to which the party has weakened in Parliament.
Rebel of 60 MLAs
Mamata Banerjee, who ruled over power in West Bengal for 15 years, is now being challenged by her own MLAs. Ritabrata Banerjee, who holds the post of Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, has made it clear that he considers Mamata Banerjee as his leader, but he does not accept Abhishek Banerjee’s leadership in the organization at all. This stance of Ritabrata Banerjee has the open support of about 60 TMC MLAs. Due to which Mamata Banerjee’s political ground seems to be continuously slipping.
