UP Weather Alert: Weather to Remain Bad in UP for 5 Days, Thunderstorm and Rain Alert in These Areas
UP Weather Alert: Pre-monsoon activity appears to be in full swing across Uttar Pradesh, resulting in thunderstorms and squalls yesterday. Rainfall in various areas also provided residents with relief from the scorching heat; however, the respect for the people of UP is likely to be short-lived.
An alert for thunderstorms and squalls has been issued for 22 districts in the state, with wind speeds expected to reach 60–70 km/h. Lucknow-based Meteorologist Atul Singh stated that a Western Disturbance is currently active over the region near Haryana, bringing pre-monsoon rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rainfall warnings for various parts of the state.
Key Update from the Meteorological Department
Meteorologist Atul Singh explained, “A Western Disturbance is active near Haryana, causing pre-monsoon rainfall. The monsoon is likely to enter UP via Sonbhadra and Lalitpur by June 17 and reach Lucknow by June 20. Currently, the monsoon has reached Bihar.”
Typically, the monsoon arrives in UP by June 20, meaning it could arrive three days early this year. In the last 24 hours, five people lost their lives in incidents related to storms and rain. One farmer died due to a lightning strike in Unnao and Ghazipur, while a husband, wife, and their daughter died in Kasganj when a house’s concrete roof (lintel) collapsed during a storm.
Weather Forecast until June 19
The Meteorological Department has warned of strong winds and heavy rain in Western UP on June 15, while the weather is expected to remain clear in Eastern UP. Cloudy conditions will prevail across the state on June 16, with humidity providing some relief from the heat. On June 17, the weather in UP will remain clear, though strong winds will blow.
Cloud cover may lead to scattered light rain or drizzle in some areas. Cloudy conditions are expected to persist across the state on June 18. Rainfall may occur in some areas. Light to heavy rain is expected across the state on June 19, and storms could also occur in some places.
According to Senior Scientist Atul Singh, rainfall below normal levels is forecast for the entire country, including Uttar Pradesh, this year. Typically, Uttar Pradesh receives approximately 820 to 840 millimeters of rainfall between June and September; however, this year, rainfall is expected to be 8% lower, totaling around 754 to 773 millimeters.
