Man of Tomorrow Is Shaping Up to Be Superman’s Most Ambitious Movie Yet
The DCU’s most ambitious chapter is closer than you think. Lars Winther shared major Man of Tomorrow updates at the Supergirl world premiere.
Man of Tomorrow is already halfway through its production
DC Studios’ EVP of Physical Production Lars Winther confirmed that Man of Tomorrow has already reached the halfway point of filming. Winther shared the update during the Supergirl world premiere in New York City. The sequel to 2025’s Superman started principal photography on April 20, 2026, at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.
Winther revealed that Milly Alcock’s Supergirl plays a significant role in the upcoming film. He stated that “Supergirl’s in it a lot” alongside David Corenswet’s Superman. The producer also teased the dynamic between the two Kryptonian cousins in the sequel.
“You see their dynamic, which I think is cool,” Winther said about the Superman and Supergirl pairing. He explained that Supergirl gives audiences essential backstory for Alcock’s character before Man of Tomorrow. Viewers will understand more about her journey and her relationship with Superman heading into the sequel.
Winther also addressed the film’s villain, Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger. He described the antagonist as representing “a whole new level of villain” for the Superman family. The DCU heroes will now face this elevated threat as a united team.
“The Man of Tomorrow is going to be epic,” Winther declared confidently about the July 2027 release. He noted that DC Studios continues building up the Superman family across its interconnected projects. The Supergirl film serves as a direct bridge into the events of Man of Tomorrow.
James Gunn writes and directs the sequel, which also stars Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Rachel Brosnahan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Aaron Pierre all reprise their DCU roles. Filming will continue through mid-2026 across locations in Georgia, Ohio, and the United Kingdom.
