New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the countrymen in the 139th episode of 'Mann Ki Baat' program on Sunday. During this, he talked about many important topics related to science, research and humanity. PM Modi said, “In the beginning of October, I went to Chennai. There I met many scientists, researchers and young talents of the country. It makes me proud to see that our youth today are working on such subjects which have the potential to change the future of entire humanity.”
3D pictures of brain will be prepared by Param Shakti supercomputer
The Prime Minister mentioned India's major achievement in the field of brain research. He told that he had inaugurated the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Center at IIT Madras. PM Modi said, “This center has developed a brain imaging platform which is an example for the whole world. Through this platform, high-resolution digital three-D pictures of the human brain are being prepared. Its aim is to do three-D mapping of 100 human brains and study them microscopically. This is the first mission of its kind in the world. Param Shakti supercomputer is being used for this important work.”
He said that the industry along with the government has played an important role in the construction of this brain centre. Many IIT alumni and academicians are associated with this research centre. Explaining the importance of this project, PM Modi said that no matter how much progress science has made, the human brain still remains a big puzzle. There are many diseases like Alzheimer's and dementia for which no concrete treatment has been found till now. The more deeply science understands the functioning of the human brain, the more new avenues will open in the field of health in the future.
He also informed that in future, this data related to 100 human brains will be made available as open source for research in various fields so that scientists around the world can take advantage of it. He said that organ donation plays a big role in such advanced research. People who donate their organs after life not only save many lives but also advance scientific research.
Expressed pride in the scientific talent of youth
Giving this example, PM Modi mentioned Shivani of Narmadapuram in Madhya Pradesh. He said, “Shivani had become a victim of a road accident. A mountain of troubles had befallen her family but even in these difficult times, the family took an inspiring decision. They decided to donate Shivani's organs.” The Prime Minister said that this decision of Shivani's family has given a big message to the entire society and the country. A small step taken towards humanity can bring happiness to another family and can also be of great help in research work.
