On Gandhi Jayanti, the makers of Sudhir Mishra’s upcoming film *Gandhi And My Mother* released the first-look images of Manoj Bajpayee as Mahatma Gandhi.
The stills, shared by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, show Bajpayee in traditional white attire, bald and with a moustache, seated in period settings alongside co-stars.
The project is produced by Narendra Hirawat’s NH Studioz and Anubhav Sinha’s Benaras Mediaworks. It also features Waheeda Rehman as Putlibai, Gandhi’s mother, along with Divya Dutta and Saurabh Shukla. According to the makers, the film focuses on a 21-day chapter from Gandhi’s later life around the time of India’s independence, examining personal choices and relationships rather than a broad biographical account.
Mishra has said the idea grew from conversations with his mother, Durga Devendra Nath Mishra, who met Gandhi as a child. Before her death in 2022, he promised her he would make a film about him.
Shooting began in Lucknow in September 2026, with Bajpayee reportedly losing around 10 kg and following a restricted diet and lifestyle for the role. The film remains under its working title, and no release date has been announced.
