March of Nihang Sikhs from Punjab to Dehradun, security tightened after Karnaprayag dispute, heavy force deployed on the border
Punjab Nihang Sikhs March: A group of more than 150 Nihang Sikhs from Mohali in Punjab and Chandigarh have left for Dehradun in Uttarakhand. According to the information, this group can reach the state border by evening. Before leaving, a meeting was also held at Sohna Gurudwara in Mohali, in which further strategy was discussed.
Displeasure over Karnaprayag incident, claim to bring back partner
Nihang Sikhs have said that they are hurt by the incident in Karnaprayag and are going to Uttarakhand with the aim of taking back one of their comrades. He says that during the visit he will also inspect the arrangements of Gurudwaras and the treatment with the devotees.
Security tightened in border areas, ITBP and PAC deployed
In view of the situation, security arrangements have been tightened on the borders of Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. ITBP, PAC and local police forces have been deployed. Especially Sikh policemen have been given further security responsibilities so that the situation remains under control.
Hemkund Sahib Yatra and inspection of Gurudwaras
The Nihangs who had come from Punjab had already informed at Gurdwara Sahib in Nagarasu, Rudraprayag that their group would reach Uttarakhand on June 25. After this he will visit the Gurudwaras of Chamoli and Rudraprayag and after reviewing the arrangements, leave for Hemkund Sahib.
Administration and government are keeping an eye, CM Dhami gave instructions
Taking vigilance on the matter, the Uttarakhand government has issued instructions to maintain peace. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated and respect for every devotee will be ensured. Efforts are being made to maintain constant coordination between the administration, Sikh representatives and Nihangs.
Local protest in Nagarasu, demand for investigation
Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and Uttarakhand Swabhiman Morcha held a joint demonstration in Nagarasu Gurdwara Sahib area. However, the demonstration took place in the presence of a limited number of people. The leaders said that this dispute is not related to any particular community, but is an incident that happened between two parties, which requires an impartial investigation.
Controversy broke out in Karnaprayag, the matter reached violence
According to sources, the bike of Nihang Sikhs returning from Hemkund Sahib Yatra collided with a car parked in Karnaprayag market. After this the dispute escalated and the matter became violent. It is alleged that some Nihangs attacked with sharp weapons, in which many people were injured. A seriously injured person was airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh.
After the incident, local traders and people blocked Badrinath Highway for about 5 hours, due to which traffic from Gauchar to Nandprayag was affected. Police took action and arrested four Nihangs.
Who are Nihang Sikhs?
Nihang Sikhs are considered a warrior group of the Sikh community, identified with blue robes and traditional weapons. They are historically known as the warrior force of Sikhism. They have swords, sabers, spears and other traditional weapons and are also known for their distinctive costumes.
Beginning of Nihang sect
The beginning of the Nihang tradition is considered to be with the establishment of the Khalsa Panth by the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh. During this time, the Nihang community was formed as an organized warrior group, whose objective was to be proficient in the art of war and to protect religion and society when needed.
