Marco Jansen has become the top-ranked Test bowler and Test all-rounder for the first time, and Abhishek Sharma has reclaimed the No.1 spot among T20I batters in the latest ICC rankings. Jansen’s rise to the top in both categories follows South Africa’s win over Australia in the second Test in Gqeberha. Abhishek’s return to the top of the T20I list comes after his century against New Zealand.
Both are 26 years old. Abhishek displaced India teammate Ishan Kishan, who had taken the top spot from him in July after a run of scores in Ireland. Kishan missed the second and third games of the New Zealand series through injury. Abhishek now has 897 rating points, 31 clear of third-placed Kishan. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan is second on 883 points, and India T20I captain Shreyas Iyer has slipped five places to ninth.
Abhishek has made 29, 27 and 113 in the five-match series against New Zealand. His century in Wellington came off just 35 balls, and he finished on 113 off 38 deliveries as India won by six wickets to seal the series. It was the fourth T20I century of his career. He first reached No.1 in July 2025, when he overtook Australia’s Travis Head.
Jansen’s numbers across the first two Tests against Australia were 26 and 35 in Durban and 85 in Gqeberha with the bat, and 3/68 and 1/45, then 5/33 and 1/34 with the ball. The left-arm pacer’s five-wicket haul came in Australia’s first innings. The all-rounder climbed 13 places to 56th among Test batters, moved up five spots to overtake Mitchell Starc as the No.1 Test bowler, and rose one place to displace Ravindra Jadeja as the top-ranked Test all-rounder. It is the first time he has topped either list, and he improved his position across all three Test ranking categories.
Jansen leads the bowlers’ list on 876 rating points, with Mitchell Starc, Matt Henry, Ollie Robinson and Jasprit Bumrah behind him. In the all-rounder list, he dethroned Ravindra Jadeja, who now holds second. Former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn recently described him as “the best cricketer in the world”.
“Jadeja had held that mantle for more than four years,” the ICC said in its rankings release. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma climbed four places to second among Test batters, after being named Player of the Match in Gqeberha. In the ODI list, India captain Shubman Gill remains No.1, with Virat Kohli third and Rohit Sharma fourth.
