Mumbai: A massive fire broke out on the 11th floor of a residential building in Vile Parle (West), Mumbai on Tuesday night. The fire spread so fast that many people got trapped on the upper floors. Fire brigade personnel reached the spot and carried out a rescue operation, but a two and a half year old child and a 23 year old woman lost their lives in this accident. Four other people have been injured. According to officials, the fire broke out at around 10:08 pm in flat numbers 1101 and 1102 on the 11th floor of the building located on Baptista Road. The fire was limited to an area of ​​about 4,000 square feet.

Mumbai Fire Department had initially categorized the fire as Level-1. After about eight minutes it was declared a level-2 fire. Many fire engines reached the spot and started the work of extinguishing the fire and taking people out safely. According to officials, about 15 people were trapped on the roof of the building, who were rescued safely. After about three hours of hard work, the fire was completely brought under control at around 1 am.

Two people died, condition of four is stable

A total of eight people were reported injured in the accident. Of these, six were taken to Nanavati Hospital and two to Cooper Hospital. Among the six people admitted to Nanavati Hospital, two and a half year old Abir and 23 year old Ankita were declared dead by the doctors. Parth (32), Hiren (64), Yashasvi (33) and Abhishek were treated. The condition of all four was said to be stable. After treatment, Yashasvi and Abhishek were discharged from the hospital. Firefighter Manoj Sonawane (30) was also among the two injured admitted to Cooper Hospital. He was discharged after treatment. Shivam Dwivedi (29) suffered minor injuries and was also discharged from the hospital.
