The state government of Haryana has granted full university status to Gurugram-based Masters’ Union (MU), paving the way for the company to operate as Master’s Union University.

The Haryana Legislative Assembly passed the Haryana Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2026, allowing the six-year old higher education institution to operate as a private university.

“Over the next few years, we will be developing departments across Law, Medicine, Agri, Biotech; launch PhD programmes and diplomas, and create entirely new pathways for higher education,” founder Pratham Mittal said in a social media post.

MU intends to expand its physical footprint on a 5.14-acre site in Gurugram, including 1.07 Lakh sq ft of already constructed area, its campus will include accelerator hubs, maker labs, and research infrastructure, as well as residences and cultural and sporting facilities.

The decision validates MU’s model of entrepreneurship-focused and practitioner-led education, Mittal noted.

“In the AI age, access to information is no longer the constraint. The real advantage will come from knowing how to frame problems, make decisions and build solutions. That is why we have always believed in learning by doing – students taking ownership of a real problem, understanding it from the ground up, working with experts, managing resources and making decisions with real-world impact,” he added.

Founded in 2020, MU offers programmes in management, technology and engineering, as well as family business and executive learning. Currently, it has over 3,000 students enrolled across multiple disciplines.

It touts its faculty, who comprise investors, founders, and industry leaders as a unique selling point.

As per its website, former SoftBank India head Manoj Kohli, Swiggy’s food delivery CEO Rohit Kapoor, InfoEdge cofounder Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Zerodha cofounder Nithin Kamath, Lenskart’s Peyush Bansal, and Mamaearth’s Ghazal Alagh, are among its ‘Masters’ or faculty.

The university also focuses on student entrepreneurship and has backed more than 80 student startups since inception through various initiatives including its Venture Initiation Programme (VIP).

MU claims that 10 VIP-incubated startups have raised over ₹65 Cr and recorded a combined annual revenue of ₹320 Cr in FY25.

In its Entrepreneurship Report for 2025, it said that its students have launched over 30 startups in the past five years and more than half have raised over $1 Mn. Besides, MU’s sister business and global business school Tetr College of Business also floated a $10 Mn fund to back student entrepreneurs in October 2024.

MU also offers a Founder Fellowship through which more than 40 students aspiring to build their own startups have been backed with $50,000 per month in grant funding, mentorship from industry leaders, and fundraising support.
