Meeting of PM Modi and French President Macron: A total of 13 important decisions were approved from Rafale-Nuclear to AI.

New Delhi, June 14. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘India Innovates 2026’ conclave in the presence of President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday, the second day of his official visit to France, a total of 13 important decisions from Rafale, Nuclear to AI were approved during the bilateral talks between the two leaders.

India and France have set a five-year target of doubling their annual trade from the current US$16 billion. Along with this, an Innovation Roadmap and a Joint Framework for Artificial Intelligence (AI) were also introduced to enhance cooperation in strategic and key areas.

The talks between the two leaders yielded 13 outcomes, including the announcement of high-speed railway cooperation, an agreement on security for confidential data and an agreement to extend India’s UPI payment network to Paris and Nice airports.

Giving information about the bilateral meeting, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that all aspects of bilateral relations were discussed between the two leaders, including civil nuclear energy, defence, security, space, trade and investment, technology, innovation, education, mobility and people-to-people ties.

  • Business : Target to double bilateral trade from $16 billion in the next 5 years.
  • UPI Expansion : Decision to extend India’s UPI to Paris and Nice airports.
  • Defense Agreement: Discussion on France’s plan to buy 114 Rafale fighter aircraft from Dassault Aviation.
  • Nuclear Energy: Detailed interaction on civil nuclear energy including small and advanced modular reactors.
  • Technology : Emphasis on increasing mutual cooperation in the field of innovation and new technologies.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the objective of ‘India-France Innovation Roadmap 2030’ is to strengthen cooperation in important and emerging technologies as well as startup and incubator ecosystem. Also to promote academic mobility and relations between industry-academia.

Both sides also announced the creation of a high-level mechanism to achieve the target of doubling bilateral trade in the next five years. Currently the volume of bilateral trade is approximately US $ 16 billion. A separate dialogue mechanism for economic security was also announced.
