Mercedes Benz CLA Electric Luxury Sedan Launched At 55 Lakh

The German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the new Mercedes-Benz CLA EV in India. This all-new electric sedan has been launched with a starting price of Rs. 55 lakh for the entry-level CLA200 trim. The CLA badge is making a return in India after 6 years, as it was discontinued in 2020. The 2026 CLA EV has been positioned as the entry-level model for Mercedes-Benz India’s EV portfolio. It has been announced that the deliveries of this EV sedan will commence later this month.

Mercedes-Benz India is offering the new CLA EV in three variants. The first is the CLA 200 Standard Range, which has been priced at Rs 55 lakh, and the other is the CLA 250+ Long Range. The latter has been priced at Rs 59 lakh (ex-showroom). There’s a Launch Edition of the CLA 250+, which is priced at Rs. 64 lakh.

Bookings for the CLA Electric were already open ahead of its launch for a token amount of Rs 1.5 lakh. As for deliveries, the CLA 250+ Long Range will begin reaching customers by the end of April 2026. Meanwhile, the CLA 200 Standard Range will be delivered from June onwards.

As mentioned, the Mercedes-Benz CLA EV is the most affordable electric model in the Mercedes-Benz India EV lineup. Also, it has replaced multiple entry-level models in the company’s lineup, including the A-Class Limousine, EQA, and EQB. With this, the new Mercedes-Benz India lineup has become less cluttered.

Starting off on the outside, the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric features a sleek, coupe-inspired silhouette like its ICE predecessor. This silhouette is notable for its strong emphasis on aerodynamics. At the front, it gets a gloss black sealed grille with multiple illuminated three-pointed star elements that give this sedan a very distinctive identity.

Additionally, the sedan also gets sleek LED headlamps, which are connected by a thin LED light bar. Moving on to the side, the CLA EV gets flush-fitting door handles, clean body lines, and 18-inch aerodynamic AMG alloy wheels. The lower portion of the body gets blacked-out elements, which add contrast to the overall design.

Stepping inside the cabin, the driver and passengers will be greeted with a super modern and tech-heavy layout. It comes equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. However, unlike the global models, the India-spec version does not get the triple-screen setup. Instead, it features an illuminated panel with star-pattern elements on the passenger side.

Additionally, it also gets an AMG Line package as standard, which adds sportier bumpers, aluminium pedals, and AMG styling elements. The cabin also features leatherette upholstery and premium material finishes, which add to the overall luxury appeal of this electric sedan.

Apart from this, the CLA Electric comes loaded with features such as electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, heated and massage seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents. It also gets a fixed panoramic glass roof, wireless phone charger, Burmester sound system, auto park assist, and multiple USB-C charging ports.

As for the list of safety features, Mercedes-Benz is offering this EV sedan with 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic parking brake, and a Level 2 ADAS suite. The model has also secured a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests, which makes it one of the safest cars in its segment.

Mercedes CLA sedan charging

Coming to the powertrain and battery pack details, the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric gets two battery pack options. The first is the CLA 200 Standard Range, which gets a 58 kWh battery pack with a claimed WLTP range of up to 542 km.

On the other hand, the CLA 250+ Long Range comes equipped with a larger 85 kWh battery pack paired with a rear-mounted electric motor. This setup produces around 268 hp and 335 Nm of torque. It also gets a two-speed transmission and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.7 seconds.

The highlight here is the claimed WLTP range of up to 792 km. This makes it one of the longest-range electric sedans currently available in India. The CLA Electric is built on the brand’s new Modular Architecture platform and features an 800V electrical system. It supports up to 240 kW DC fast charging, which can add up to 400 km of range in just 20 minutes under ideal conditions.

Additionally, Mercedes-Benz has also tuned the suspension and increased the ground clearance of the CLA Electric to better suit Indian road conditions. It also gets a frunk with 101 litres of storage space, along with a 405-litre boot at the rear. The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric takes on rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, BYD Seal, and Kia EV6 in the Indian market.
