Messi’s son wins international youth football tournament as father sets World Cup record

The tournament was held from June 24 to 29 at Cap Cana Sports City in the Dominican Republic. It brought together 103 teams and over 2,000 young players from 20 countries, featuring competitions across age groups from U12 to U16.

Inter Miami U14 squad concluded their impressive journey with a decisive 3-0 victory over GOT FC in the final, HELLO reported.

Before reaching the title match, Thiago and his teammates were flawless in the group stage. They won all three of their matches, scoring a remarkable 18 goals while conceding only one, before successfully navigating the knockout rounds.

This victory represents a significant step forward for the team compared to last season, when Thiago’s squad were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

The championship in Punta Cana further extends Thiago’s impressive track record within the Inter Miami academy.

His trophy cabinet now includes the Weston Cup U12 (2024), Weston Cup U13 (2025), and back-to-back Dreams Cup titles secured in late 2025 and May 2026.

While Thiago was lifting the trophy in the Dominican Republic, his father was making history with the Argentina national team at the 2026 World Cup.

As Argentina’s captain, Lionel Messi has been instrumental in the defending champions’ perfect group stage record. He has already scored six goals in the tournament, setting a new World Cup all-time scoring record with 19 goals.

Due to national team duty, neither Messi nor his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, were able to attend the final in Punta Cana to support their son in person. The couple have two other sons, Mateo (born in 2015) and Ciro (2018).

Thiago, who will turn 14 in November, continues to develop at the academy of Inter Miami, which is widely regarded as one of the fastest-growing youth football setups in the U.S.
