‘Metro Monday’ campaign started in Delhi on PM Modi’s appeal, CM Rekha Gupta traveled by metro and bus
New Delhi. The ‘Metro Monday’ campaign was launched in the capital on Monday, which aims to motivate people to use public transport more. Through this initiative, emphasis is being laid on reducing traffic, fuel consumption and pollution by promoting modes like metro and bus. After the Prime Minister’s appeal, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta herself started this campaign by using public transport and gave a message to the people that they should also give priority to metro and buses instead of private vehicles. The main objective of this campaign is to reduce the increasing traffic pressure in the city, save fuel and control air pollution.
Reached Lieutenant Governor’s public residence on foot
Another symbolic initiative was seen on Monday (May 18) amid the ‘Metro Monday’ campaign in the capital, when the Chief Minister walked from her official residence, Mukhyamantri Jan Seva Sadan, Civil Lines, to the Lieutenant Governor’s Lok Sabha. The Chief Minister participated in the meeting held here. His step is being seen as an attempt to convey simplicity, public participation and a positive message among the general public. According to government sources, the aim of such initiatives is to reduce the distance between the administration and the public and to promote simple and responsible behavior in public life.
Traveled in metro from Kashmiri Gate to ITO
After the meeting at Lok Niwas, the Chief Minister reached Kashmiri Gate Metro Station and from there took the Metro to ITO Station. During this, he traveled with common passengers and discussed the benefits of public transport. During the journey in the metro, many passengers expressed happiness on seeing the Chief Minister among them and also talked to him. While interacting with the people, the Chief Minister also inspired them to use metro and other public transport means more.
After reaching ITO metro station, the Chief Minister used a feeder bus to reach his office at Delhi Secretariat. During this time, Delhi Government ministers Pravesh Verma and Ravindra Indraj were also present with him. Everyone together used public transport and traveled among common passengers. According to government sources, the aim of this initiative is to send the message that when ministers and senior officials themselves adopt public transport, it will have a positive impact on the common people and they will also be motivated to use modes like metro and bus more.
Part of ‘My India, My Contribution’ campaign
The ‘Metro Monday’ initiative launched in the capital has been linked to the ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Contribution’ campaign. The objective of this program is to make people aware about environmental protection, fuel saving and use of public transport to reduce traffic jams. According to the Delhi government, through this initiative people are being motivated to adopt modes like metro and bus, so that the problem of increasing traffic pressure and pollution in the city can be reduced.
The Chief Minister said that if more people use the Metro and buses, then both pollution and traffic jams in Delhi can be significantly reduced. The government said that on Monday many ministers and senior officials also used the metro and other public transport means to reach their offices. This step is being seen as an example-setting initiative by the administration.
