What is semi-solid state battery and why is it special?
This battery is being seen as ‘future technology’ in the automobile industry. The MG 4X will be the second car from the SAIC group to use this technology. Earlier, the company has introduced it in its premium electric sedan IM L6.
- Fire Safety: The amount of liquid electrolyte in this battery is only 5%. Due to less liquid, the risk of fire or explosion in case of short circuit is almost negligible.
- Fast Charging: This technology supports super-fast charging, which will reduce the charging time significantly during long distance travel.
- No effect of temperature: It is often seen that the range of electric cars reduces in severe cold, but the weather does not have any adverse effect on the performance of semi-solid state batteries.
- Better life: It can withstand more charging cycles than ordinary batteries, which increases both the resale value and life of the car.

“The introduction of semi-solid state batteries into mass-market cars is a major game changer. It not only eliminates driving range anxiety, but also sets the safety standards that today’s customer demands.”
