Mira Road Attack: CM Devendra Fadnavis Calls It Suspected ‘Lone Wolf’ Radicalisation Case
Devendra Fadnavis has termed the recent stabbing incident in Mira Road as a suspected case of “lone wolf” attack linked to self-radicalisation.
In an official statement, the Chief Minister said preliminary findings suggest that the accused may have been influenced by extremist material. Authorities reportedly recovered books and other incriminating content during searches at the individual’s residence.
Incident Leaves Two Security Guards Injured
The incident involved a 31-year-old accused, identified as Jaib Ansariwho allegedly attacked two security guards with a knife at a residential construction site in Mira Road East.
The victims, Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Sen, sustained multiple injuries and were shifted to a hospital for treatment. Police said the attack occurred in the early hours following an altercation.
Investigation Handed to ATS and NIA
Given the nature of the incident and emerging claims, the case has been handed over to the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). The National Investigation Agency is also involved in the probe.
Fadnavis confirmed that the investigation will go beyond the accused to examine whether any broader network or external influence contributed to the alleged radicalisation.
Probe Focuses on Motive and Background
According to police officials, the accused had spent several years in the United States before returning to India. Investigators are currently analysing his background, digital footprint, and possible sources of influence.
Authorities are also verifying claims related to the motive behind the attack, including reports suggesting a religious angle. Officials have urged caution against speculation while the investigation is ongoing.
Swift Arrest and Ongoing Inquiry
Police acted quickly, arresting the accused within hours of the incident after reviewing CCTV footage from the area. Security agencies are continuing to gather evidence and statements to establish a clear sequence of events.
The Chief Minister assured that the case will be thoroughly investigated, with full cooperation from state authorities to ensure accountability and maintain public safety.
