Mirabai Chanoo’s golden hat-trick at Commonwealth Games makes India proud with new record
Mirabai Chanu’s golden hat trick: In the Commonwealth Games 2026, India’s star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu once again proved her superiority and created history by winning the gold medal for the third time in a row. In the women’s 48 kg weight category, she lifted a total of 190 kg (85 kg in snatch and 105 kg in clean and jerk) to set a new Games record and give India another gold medal.
After Mirabai successfully completed all her lifts, the audience in the stadium gave her a grand reception with thunderous applause. After the win, he said, “I am very happy to win the third gold medal for India.”
Revealed to have won under pressure
Mirabai said that there was a lot of pressure on her this time. He said, “The thought was constantly running in my mind that will I be able to win the gold medal this time too? Now I feel very relaxed after the win.”
He further stated that maintaining the 48 kg weight range was very challenging for him. It has not been easy to control body weight for a long time. He said that this performance is very important for him and now his full focus will be on the upcoming Asian Games.
Rishikanta won a historic silver medal
On the other hand, the competition also turned out to be memorable for weightlifter Rishikanta Singh Chanambam from Manipur. In the men’s 60 kg weight category, he lifted a total of 264 kg (Games record 121 kg in the snatch and 143 kg in the clean and jerk) to win the silver medal.
With this achievement Rishikanta became the first male weightlifter from Manipur to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games.
‘This was my dream’
After winning the silver, Rishikanta said, “Winning my first silver medal at the Commonwealth Games is a dream come true for me. My family will be very proud of my achievement.”
He revealed that his knee started to hurt during the break after the snatch round. However, he did not give up. Rishikanta said, “I knew that if I gave up, everything would be ruined. I told my coach that I would need to do the final clean and jerk round to win the silver.”
This superb performance by the Indian weightlifters has strengthened India’s medal campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Mirabai Chanoo’s golden hat-trick and Rishikanta Singh’s historic silver has been a proud moment for India.
