India’s star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has started the golden campaign for the country by performing brilliantly in the Commonwealth Games 2026. In the women’s 48 kg weight category, she won the gold medal in a one-sided manner by lifting a total weight of 190 kg. This is India’s first gold medal in CWG 2026. With this, he has also completed his hat-trick of winning gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. Earlier, he had also won gold for India in the 2018 Gold Coast and 2022 Birmingham editions.

Excellent performance in snatch and clean and jerk

During the competition, Mirabai Chanu had strengthened her lead from the very beginning. He made a new Games record by lifting 85 kg in the snatch round. After this, he created history by lifting 105 kg in the clean and jerk round. Chanu, who started her journey by winning a silver medal in the 2014 Glasgow Games, has been successful in winning a medal in the fourth consecutive Commonwealth Games. She has become the first Indian weightlifter to win three consecutive gold medals in these games.

India reached seventh place in medal tally

With this historic performance of Mirabai Chanu, India has won a total of 3 medals in the Commonwealth Games 2026, which includes one gold, one silver and one bronze. Earlier, Rishikant Singh had opened the country’s account by winning silver medal in men’s 60 kg category and Jhandu Kumar had won bronze medal in para powerlifting. After this brilliant start, the Indian team has now reached seventh place in the medal table, while Australia is at the top.
