RJD MP Misa Bharti on Wednesday launched a strong attack on the Bihar government over the recent police action against protesting students in Patna, describing the Samrat Choudhary-led administration as a “lathi-charge government”.
Reacting to the student agitation, Bharti alleged that the protesters were demonstrating peacefully when the government directed police to use force. She said the students' demands were legitimate and accused the ruling party of dismissing protests as “sponsored” whenever Opposition parties extended support to them.
The RJD leader also questioned the law-and-order situation in the state, citing incidents involving firearms and alleged criminal activity. Referring to the recent removal of the Siwan District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police following an AK-47 firing incident, she alleged that their next postings were being delayed because the government was looking for lucrative assignments for the two officials.
Bharti described the Samrat Choudhary-led government as “incompetent”, “useless” and “murderous”.
She also criticized Bihar ministers over rising sugar prices. Responding to a minister's argument that higher sugar prices could benefit farmers, Bharti said farmers would benefit only if they received remunerative prices for their sugarcane.
Taking a sarcastic swipe at remarks questioning the need to consume sugar, she asked whether people would still be expected not to worry if its price reached Rs 1,000 per kg.
On former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's silence, Bharti said his health could be the reason and declined to comment further, citing her family's long-standing relationship with him. At the same time, she questioned who should inform the public about his condition if he was not unwell.
Referring to her earlier allegations concerning Sanjay Jha and Lalan Singh, she said the two leaders should clarify Nitish Kumar's actual status. She claimed that when she greeted Kumar, the response came from the two leaders rather than directly from him.
Bharti also criticized Upendra Kushwaha amid differences within the INDIA bloc and the wider debate over political legacy. She questioned Kushwaha's claim to that legacy and alleged that political leaders were prioritizing their own interests over Bihar's concerns.
