Khandva: A surprising case has come to light from Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. A person who was accused in a molestation case about 40 years ago is now in the hands of the police. During interrogation after his arrest, the accused told the police that he did not remember the old incident and he could not even tell which girl he had molested. The age of the accused is now 64 years.
A case of molestation was registered in 1986
According to Moghat Road Police, in the year 1986, a woman had filed a case of molestation against Sanjay Nagar resident Ashok Kumar, father Popsing alias Pappu. At that time Ashok was about 24 years old. The police arrested him and presented him in the court, from where he later got bail.
After getting bail, the accused started continuously remaining absent from the court appearances. After this the court issued a permanent warrant against him. The police was busy searching for him since then.
Accused not found at old locations
In search of the accused, Moghat Road police collected information about his old locations. Police came to know that he had a cutting shop at Jalebi Chowk, but on reaching there they found the shop closed. After this the police team reached his house in Sanjay Nagar, but it was locked there too.
Meanwhile, TI Vikas Khichi and Head Constable Rafiq Khan got information from the informer that Ashok Kumar was living in a sugarcane charkha shop operated near the bus stand.
Arrest after 40 years on informer's information
As soon as the information was received, the police team reached the spot and arrested Ashok Kumar. After this he was produced in the court, from where he was sent to jail.
Appearance changed from 24 to 64 years of age
According to the police, when the case was registered against Ashok, he was about 24 years old. After almost four decades, he is now 64 years old. In such a long period, there had been a lot of change in his face and appearance.
However, the police confirmed his identity on the basis of information received from the informer and information received from family members. During interrogation, the accused told the police that he did not remember the nearly four decade old case. He also said that he could not remember which girl he had molested.
According to the police, the accused also has the problem of amnesia. At present, on the basis of the standing warrant issued in the old case, he was arrested and presented in the court, from where he was sent to jail.
