Modak Easy Recipe: Lifestyle Desk. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm across the country. On this day devotees worship Lord Ganesha and offer him favorite dishes. Among these, Modak is considered to have a special place. It is believed that Modak is very dear to Lord Ganesha. Many types of modaks are easily available in the market, but home made modaks have different taste and freshness. Traditional Ukdiche modaks are especially loved for their soft outer layer and delicious coconut-jaggery filling. If you want to make modak for Bappa at home this Ganesh Chaturthi, then you can try this easy method.
Coconut and jaggery filling will be prepared like this
First of all prepare the filling of modak. For this, heat some ghee in a pan and add grated coconut to it and fry it lightly. Now add jaggery to it and cook on low flame. After the jaggery melts, mix it well with the coconut.

After this add cardamom powder and finely chopped dry fruits. Do not cook the mixture for too long, as this may make the filling too dry. When coconut and jaggery mix well, turn off the gas. Take out the filling in a plate and keep it to cool.

Prepare soft layer from rice flour
Now prepare to make the outer layer of modak. Put water, some ghee and a pinch of salt in a pan and boil it. When the water boils, reduce the flame and slowly add the rice flour. While adding flour, keep stirring it continuously, so that lumps do not form in the mixture.

After this, turn off the gas and keep the pan covered for a few minutes. When the mixture cools down a bit, knead it well with hands. This will prepare soft and smooth dough. While kneading the dough, you can apply some ghee or water on your hands as per need.

Give beautiful shape to modak by adding filling.
Now make small balls of the prepared dough. Place one ball of dough on your palm and gently shape it into a bowl with the help of your fingers. Place the prepared filling of coconut and jaggery in the middle. Now make small petals on the edges with the help of your fingers and keep folding them upwards.

Gently join all the edges and shape into a modak. Prepare remaining modaks in the same manner. If you have a mold for making modaks, then it can easily be used to make modaks of similar size.

Steam cook for 10 to 15 minutes
Once the modaks are ready, place them in the steamer. Cook them in steam for about 10 to 15 minutes. When the outer layer of modaks starts appearing shiny and soft, then understand that they are cooked well. You can take them out of the steamer and apply some ghee on top.

Saffron or chopped dry fruits can also be added to the modak for taste and decoration. Offer hot homemade modaks to Lord Ganesha and enjoy this special festival with your family.
