Activision did a deeper dive into the multiplayer experience headed for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4basically giving players a first real look at the game’s maps, its locomotion-style mechanics, the modes, and the progression systems overall. The reveal landed during Call of Duty: NEXT, that big showcase focused on the upcoming title.
Right after the main presentation ended, the Modern Warfare 4 Early Access Beta kicked off for eligible players. This Beta gives players a chance to poke at the multiplayer systems before Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide on October 23, 2026. Instead of just throwing out a small technical trial, Activision is treating the Beta like a preview showcase for a bunch of the game’s biggest multiplayer features.
Early Access Beta is Live Now
So the first Beta weekend kicked off on August 21 at 11 AM PT, and it runs right through August 25 at 10 AM PT. Early access is open to anyone who has pre-ordered or pre-purchased Modern Warfare 4 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, or Battle.net. Also, you can get in via an eligible Beta code, if that’s your thing.
Digital pre-orders pretty much get registered automatically for Early Access, while physical pre-orders usually need a Beta registration code that the retailer provides. And just so you know, the Early Access window does not include Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s newer console comes into the picture during the second weekend, like later on.
Open Beta Begins August 28
If you did not grab Early Access, you won’t be waiting forever. Weekend two starts August 28 at 10 AM PT, and continues until September 1 at 10 AM PT. Unlike Weekend One, the Open Beta is for everyone on supported platforms, no pre-order required. Nintendo Switch 2 is included during Weekend Two too, which makes the new Call of Duty experience feel more widespread across platforms. If you play in both weekends, you only need to download the Beta once; progression will carry over between the two phases.

A Separate Beta Download
One more helpful change is that the Modern Warfare 4 Beta is now being shared as a standalone download, instead of making players open the main Call of Duty app first. On PS5, players can look for the Modern Warfare 4 Beta inside the PlayStation Store and grab it separately. For PC, it shows up via Steam or Battle.net, and Xbox players should be able to find it through the Xbox Store. So in practice, getting into the testing window should feel pretty easy for the folks who qualify.
Conclusion
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is now heading into a big testing period, with the Early Access Beta live for people who qualify. Weekend One is set for August 21 to August 25. Then the Open Beta starts on August 28 and keeps running all the way until September 1. There are new multiplayer maps, plus modes, movement mechanics, and progression systems.

Players will also get to check out Ground War content, along with Kill Block, which feels like a neat addition. Overall, this Beta should give a solid preview of what Modern Warfare 4 is bringing, especially ahead of its October 23 launch. On top of that, the Nintendo Switch 2 is included during the Open Beta, and PC players are seeing technical improvements too, so it ends up feeling like one of the wider pre-release tests in the franchise.
