Mallikarjun Kharge said that we wanted this issue to be discussed, after which the Home Minister should give a statement, but the government silenced us. After all, why were the protesting children lathi charged and beaten? If these issues are not discussed even in Parliament, then where should we talk?

He said that this government itself is creating anarchy, provoking people, so that they can be lathicharged, beaten, intimidated and put in jail. We wanted to talk about these issues in the House yesterday also, but we were not given a chance. On top of that, we were not even allowed to go out of the House, we were kept inside like a jail.

Mallikarjun Kharge said that the country is today moving towards anarchy, which Modi ji and Amit Shah do not want to control. We strongly condemn such attitude.

Our children deserve justice, not oppression: Mallikarjun Kharge

Yesterday the country witnessed the government’s crackdown on peaceful democratic protests, including lathi charge and tear gas shells. Instead of responding to the voice of the students demanding justice, force was used on them. The ‘Mother of Democracy’ does not behave like this with her young children. Under these sad circumstances, I have decided not to celebrate my birthday today.

He said that I am very grateful to all those Congress leaders, workers, supporters, well-wishers and every citizen who has sent me good wishes. Your affection means a lot to me and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart, but today is not the day to celebrate. This is a day to fix accountability and restore democracy.

Why was lathicharge and tear gas used brutally on students demanding justice? Why was Parliament virtually sealed and the internet shut down? Who will take responsibility for the repeated paper leaks and the troubles of lakhs of youth?

The government should immediately allow a full discussion on this issue in Parliament. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should take moral and political responsibility of this matter and resign. 21st century student-centric examination system with secure digital question bank and randomized papers. An independent and merit-based education system with higher spending on education, free from political interference by the RSS. Legal protection to students through mandatory re-examination and compensation in case of examination irregularities. Our children deserve justice, not oppression.
