Modi government lied to auto companies to impose E-20 petrol on people – Kejriwal
E20 Petrol: Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has slammed the Modi government which is adopting new tactics to impose E-20 petrol on the people. He said that the government lied to the auto companies Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirlashkar and Hero MotoCorp that there will be no harm from the use of E-20 in E-10 vehicles.
While other companies including Toyota, Maruti have accepted in the owner manual that more than 10 percent ethanol should not be used, still if a problem arises then this should also not be done. He said that I will write a letter to all the auto companies and ask in writing to give an assurance to compensate for the falling mileage of the vehicle or the damaged parts due to E-20. Next week I will also write a letter to the PM and ask that if there is any problem in any vehicle, will the government or the company pay the compensation?
The central government is not moving at all
While addressing a press conference at AAP headquarters on Tuesday, the party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that the central government is forcefully imposing E-20 petrol on the entire country. There is strong opposition from the people, but despite this opposition the central government is adamant on its insistence. What is the reason for that stubbornness, it is not known, but the Central Government is not budging. Every day lie after lie is being told, sometimes one minister is lying and sometimes another minister is lying. Bundles of lies are being given. New tactics are being adopted by the Central Government to persuade and persuade people to use E-20.
Arvind Kejriwal said that on July 3, the central government called six auto manufacturing companies and asked them to hold a press conference and tell the public that E-20 is fine. These six companies are Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirlaskar, Hero MotoCorp, Hyundai Motor, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company. All of them were asked to hold a press conference and tell the public that E20 is the right petrol. If someone’s vehicle is E-10, E-20 will still work. Even if his vehicle is not E-20, it will work. Even if their vehicle is going to run on E-0 or E-5, it will still run on E-20 petrol.
MotoCorp lied to the public at the conference
Arvind Kejriwal told that three out of these six companies refused the government saying that they cannot tell such a big lie. But Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirlashkar and Hero MotoCorp lied to the public in the press conference. Representatives of these three said that if someone’s vehicle is E-0, E-5 or E-10 and if they put E-20 petrol in it, then there is no problem. Only 5-7 percent mileage will drop, but there will be no damage to the fuel tank, fuel system and engine. These three companies lied to the public. When people buy a car, they get an owner’s manual along with the car. It contains all the conditions. In a way, it is a contract between the consumer and the auto company.
Also use 10 percent ethanol…
While talking about the E-20 vehicle, Arvind Kejriwal said that even if 10 percent ethanol is used in all the vehicles made before 2023, which were made not for ethanol but for pure petrol, then there would be no problem. They are called E-10 compliant. Vehicles manufactured before 2023, which can use either zero ethanol or up to 10 percent ethanol, are called E-10. From 2023 onwards, all vehicles in India will start being made on E-20.
The government is not going to last much longer
Arvind Kejriwal said that these companies go to government press conferences and say that they should use E-20, there will be no problem with E-10. These companies lied. I want to tell these three that do not cheat your customers. Don’t lie to your customers. Governments keep coming and going. Anyway, this government is not going to last much longer. Customer is the king. If people stop buying their merchandise, where will they go after that?
compensation for replacement of vehicle parts
Arvind Kejriwal said that on Wednesday I will write a letter to these three lying companies and tell them that their owner manual says this and they say something else in the press conference. They should give in writing that if the mileage of a vehicle decreases by more than 10 percent, will they give compensation to that person for the mileage? If the vehicle gets damaged or broken due to use of E-20, will they provide compensation for replacement of that vehicle part? Once they say yes, there will be a line of vehicles in front of their plant across the country.
So their government or company will pay the compensation.
Arvind Kejriwal further said that I will also write letters to other companies which did not lie despite being asked by the government. I would just like to ask him to clarify once whether he also believes that E20 petrol can be used in E10? On Wednesday I will write a letter to all the companies and next week I will write a letter to the Prime Minister asking why should the public suffer the loss of this wrong step? They should tell that if the mileage of people’s car decreases, will their government or the company pay the compensation? If the engine or fuel system of people’s car gets damaged, then compensation will have to be paid. Why should the public bear the loss? Will Modi ji’s government or the company pay the compensation?
India is not the first country which…
Arvind Kejriwal said that the government has spread another lie that India is not the first country which is using ethanol. There are many other countries which are using ethanol, people there are not making noise. This is half true. The ethanol being used in other countries is being reduced from E10. Even normal vehicles can use up to E10 but cannot use more than that. Germany, America, France and Thailand still use less than E10.
Japan sets E20 target for 2040
Arvind Kejriwal further said that E3 is used in Japan and there the target of E10 has been set for 2030. They have given a phase out period of 7-8 years. Japan has taken 7 years to go from E3 to E10. Japan has set the target for E20 at 2040. 16 years from now, Japan will take 16 years to move to E20. Thailand tried E20 at some petrol pumps on a trial and pilot basis in 2008. Today it is 2026, 18 years have passed, but still both the options are there. People can take E20 or they can take E10. There is a phase out period of 18 years going on.
In Brazil people get a choice
Arvind Kejriwal told that Brazil is the only country in the whole world where E100 is used, i.e. zero petrol. There these vehicles are called flexi fuel vehicles. Brazil took 50 years to transition. The E5 was introduced in Brazil in 1931 and the E20 in 1985. It took him 50 years. Brazil began the transition in 1975 and took 10 years between 1975 and 1985. From 1985 till today he took more time. Now in Brazil people have the option of taking E100, E20 or E30. There’s the E30 basic. Over the years, they have adapted all their vehicles to it.
There are 8 crore cars which are not E20 compatible.
Arvind Kejriwal told that in India, on 6 February 2023, E20 was introduced on a trial basis in only 1900 petrol pumps across the country and after just 3 years, on 1 April 2026, it was forcefully imposed on 90 thousand petrol pumps across the country. There are 22 crore motorcycles in our country which are not compatible with E20 and cannot use E20. There are 80 million cars that are not E20 compatible and cannot use E20. Because of this stubbornness of the government, 30 crore vehicles are at risk. These 30 crore vehicles will become scrap.
E10 should be available and E20 should also be available.
Arvind Kejriwal said that I request Modi ji with folded hands not to be stubborn and agree. The only thing the public is demanding is that an option should be given. They should keep E20, but when a man goes to the petrol pump, he should get E0, E10 and E20. Different prices should be kept for these. Whoever understands, whatever his pocket allows, whatever his thoughts are and whatever his intellect allows, he should buy that petrol.
What does the Toyota owner’s manual say?
Arvind Kejriwal told that Toyota’s owner manual says that Toyota allows the use of petrol with up to 10 percent ethanol. It is written in the note below that if people are not satisfied with the drivability or mileage of their vehicle while using petrol mixed with alcohol, then they should switch back to petrol without alcohol. This means that more than 10 percent should not be used. If there is any problem in using even 10 percent, then that too should not be used. It is written in their owner manual. Still they say in the government press conference that E-20 petrol can also be used in E-10, there is no problem. This is written in the owner manual of all Toyota models including Innova Hycross, Fortuner, Glanza, Urban Cruiser, Innova Crysta.
What does Maruti owner manual say?
Arvind Kejriwal said that Maruti also went to the government press conference and said that E-20 should be used in E10 vehicles. Maruti’s manual says a mixture of unleaded petrol and ethanol, also known as gasohol, is commercially available in some areas. Such mixtures can be used in vehicles if they do not contain more than 10 percent ethanol. That means there should be less than 10 percent ethanol. The note reads that if people are not satisfied with the drivability or mileage of their vehicle when using the alcohol mixture, they should switch back to non-alcohol petrol. Do not use more than 10 percent. If there is a problem even at 10 percent, then do not use any alcohol. Maruti people are saying this. This is written in all the models of Maruti including Baleno, Dezire.
