After this important amendment made in the rules by the government, now domestic consumers will not have any legal obligation to surrender their old LPG cylinder and connection to get a PNG connection. That is, if you already have a conventional LPG cylinder in your house and you get a new PNG pipeline connection installed while upgrading your kitchen, you can still keep your LPG connection safe with you.

‘LPG Amendment Order 2026’ comes into force; Option of transfer voucher will also be available

Official notification issued by the Central Government on 25 May 2026 ‘LPG (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order 2026’ According to, the new rules have been implemented with immediate effect. Under the new guidelines, consumers will get the following facilities:

• 30 days grace period: After the PNG connection is activated, if the customer wishes, he can voluntarily close the LPG connection within the next 30 days.

• Transfer Voucher Facility: Consumers will now have the best option to use their LPG connection instead of surrendering it completely. ‘Transfer Voucher’ (TV) Can take and keep. The advantage of this will be that if they shift to another city or place in future, they will be able to reactivate their LPG connection immediately with the help of this voucher.

Who will benefit most?

The most direct and biggest benefit of this step of the government will be given to crores of tenants, students studying, migrant families and employees doing central or transferable jobs, who have to change cities every few months or years. Under the old strict rules, as soon as a consumer took a PNG connection, his LPG connection was compulsorily canceled or surrendered, due to which he had to face huge difficulties in getting a new gas connection again when he changed house or city.

Cylinder delivery time improved amid war crisis

Despite global tensions and supply chain disruptions, there is news of relief on the domestic front. According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Petroleum Ministry, there has been a significant improvement in the time from booking to delivery of LPG cylinders at home in the country.

According to official data, in just the last 4 days, more than 1.7 crore domestic LPG refilling bookings have been registered across the country. He said that due to the ongoing war in West Asia, logistics had been deeply affected, due to which it was taking an average of 5 days for the cylinders to reach the consumers’ homes after booking. But after the Ministry’s prompt monitoring and improvement of distribution network, now this waiting period has been reduced. 4.5 days Has been reduced, which aims to be further reduced in the coming days.
