Modi government’s new ‘trick’ on paper leak, Rahul Gandhi’s taunt on Telegram ban- "Why would the victim’s door be locked except for the thief?

Cases of alleged irregularities and paper leaks in the NEET-UG 2026 examination have raised concerns about the future of students across the country. Meanwhile, on the recommendation of the National Testing Agency (NTA), the Central Government has temporarily banned the messaging app ‘Telegram’ across the country till June 22, 2026. This decision of the government has given the opposition a big opportunity to target the government. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has called it a direct attack on the students instead of the paper leak mafia. Rahul Gandhi’s sharp attack: ‘Why not attack the root of the disease’ Venting his anger on the social media platform ‘X’, Rahul Gandhi has raised questions on the working style of the government. He said, "Modi government’s new tactic to stop paper leaks is to lock the victim’s door instead of catching the thief." Rahul Gandhi argued that crores of students use Telegram for studying, sharing notes and group discussions. He taunted and said that if even banning Telegram did not stop the paper leak, will the government next ban WhatsApp? He demanded the Prime Minister to stop the ‘drama’ and take strict action against the mafia who leaked the paper. Why was Telegram banned? Actually, the government and NTA do not want to take any risk regarding the re-examination of NEET-UG to be held on June 21. NTA had reported to the government that cheating mafias are using Telegram’s secret groups and channels to mislead students and commit fraud. After this input, the government has taken this step as a precaution on the day of the examination and the time thereafter. Telegram reached Delhi High Court. Telegram company has directly challenged this decision of the government. Telegram has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court demanding removal of this temporary ban. Telegram’s lawyer Madhav Khosla has requested the court to hear the matter soon, which has been accepted by the court. Now all eyes are on whether the court will issue any new instructions while striking a balance between the convenience of the students and national security. At present, this situation has become more confusing for lakhs of students preparing for the exam.
