Modi’s invitation to Khamenei’s funeral! Will the Prime Minister beat Trump and go to Iran?
Tehran invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the funeral of the deceased former supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran’s President Massoud Pezeshkian has reportedly sent an invitation to New Delhi. But will the Prime Minister go to Iran by angering the US President Donald Trump in the battle of diplomacy? That is the big question now. Apart from India, Tehran has also invited several other countries including Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, Russia, China.
India mourned Khamenei’s death last February. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri visited the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi and signed the condolence message on behalf of the government. India has long-standing close cultural, diplomatic and civilizational relations with Iran. Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar interacted with the Iranian leadership several times in the war climate. In 2024, after the death of the then president of Iran, Ibrahim Raisi, New Delhi sent a delegation to attend his funeral. But now the situation is different. So, in this changed situation, it remains to be seen whether Modi will go to Iran or not.
Khamenei’s funeral will begin on July 4. He will be buried on July 9 in Mashhad, Iran. Khamenei is being buried after more than 100 days. The funeral of Iran’s former supreme leader was hampered by security concerns. Under the circumstances, the Iranian authorities considered it too risky to hold large-scale gatherings. Because, if there is a gathering, Israel or America can attack there. In that case, there will be a risk of loss of life.
But now the situation is somewhat normal. Recently, Tehran has signed a MoU with America on ceasefire. So there is almost no risk of attack now. However, Tehran has not said anything about where the body of the former supreme leader of Iran is currently. However, speculations are already rife about the condition of the body.
