According to Meteorological Department data, many states including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala have still received below normal rainfall. Whereas in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and some other areas, rainfall remained close to normal, while in some areas more than normal rainfall was also recorded.

Impact of conditions like El Nino also

Meteorologists believe that conditions like El Nino can also be a major reason behind the uneven distribution of rain this time. Changes in the temperature of the Pacific Ocean may cause the monsoon winds to weaken and the low pressure systems that form in the Bay of Bengal may also become less active. This affects the rainfall in the interior parts of the country.

Fear of increasing farming and water crisis

Lack of rain can have a direct impact on the sowing of Kharif crops (Monsoon Update). Paddy, maize, soybean, cotton and pulse crops are highly dependent on timely rainfall. If there is not enough rain in the remaining days of July, irrigation, drinking water, water level of reservoirs and power generation may also be affected.

Now the weather department has its eyes on the coming days of July. If there is good rainfall during this period, the shortfall till now can be compensated to a great extent. At the same time, if the rainfall is less than normal, the challenges of agriculture and water management may increase in many states.
