According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the conditions have become completely favorable for the withdrawal of south-west monsoon from some parts of western Rajasthan from today i.e. 19 September 2026. However, the departure of monsoon does not at all mean that the rainy season will end suddenly. Due to a cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal and a low-pressure area extending from Madhya Pradesh to Gujarat, most parts of the country are going to receive heavy rain for the next few days.
The Meteorological Department has clarified that before the onset of winter, the monsoon will leave heavy rains in about 20 states of North, East, Central and South India. The 15% rainfall deficit that has been recorded in many parts of the country (especially in the South and Northeast) during the entire season, this withdrawal phase will work to end that drought to some extent.
According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, between September 19 and 22, the weather pattern is going to be quite aggressive in these major states of the country:

North and Central India: Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh will remain cloudy and scattered to moderate rain will continue. There is a warning of heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and East Rajasthan due to the low pressure area.

Gujarat and Maharashtra: There is a possibility of heavy rain (Yellow Alert) in Saurashtra, Kutch, Rajkot and Surat of Gujarat today. Strong winds will also blow here at a speed of 30-40 km per hour. Vidarbha, Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra will also record good rainfall.

East India: Due to active circulation in the Bay of Bengal, an alert of heavy rain and thunderstorm has been issued in West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand during the next 48 hours.

Hilly and Southern States: The danger of landslides and heavy rains remains in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Whereas in the south, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Coastal Andhra Pradesh are going to rain heavily as the monsoon approaches.
