Lahore: Terrorist and extremist incidents are continuously increasing in Pakistan. According to available data, more than 974 incidents related to terrorism and extremism were recorded in Pakistan between January 1 and August 1, 2026. There were about 190 attacks in the month of August alone, while in the first five days of September, information about about 15 more attacks has come to light.
A large number of civilians have also been killed in terrorist violence. From January 1 to August 31, 2026, more than 640 civilians have died in terrorist incidents and other violent incidents in Pakistan. This also includes people killed in action by Pakistani security forces in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir i.e. PoK.
Pakistan's security establishment is also continuously suffering losses due to terrorist violence. From January 1 to September 4, 2026, more than 964 Pakistani security personnel have been killed. This figure also includes 17 Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers killed in Ziarat area of Balochistan on September 3. At the same time, 144 Pakistani security personnel are expected to be killed in August 2026 itself.
Looking at the current trend, it is estimated that if terrorist violence continues in Pakistan, then by December 2026, about 1600 to 1700 personnel of Pakistani military and security establishment may die.
This is a big challenge for Pakistan on the security front. Especially in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security forces are constantly on target of terrorist organizations. It is noteworthy that 1,317 personnel of Pakistan's security establishment were estimated to be killed in 2025, which was considered one of the bloodiest years after 1971. The figures so far in 2026 show that this year also terrorism remains a major security threat for Pakistan.
On Friday, Pakistani security forces conducted an operation in Kalat district of Balochistan. According to the army, during this period 12 militants belonging to Baloch insurgent groups were killed. Meanwhile, police and paramilitary forces foiled an armed attack in Bhag city, in which five people were injured. The operation against these militants was conducted on the basis of intelligence information. In part, the militants had tried to target the police station, the office of the Assistant Commissioner and a bank.
