In fact, the Yogi government of the state had appointed 57694 village heads to the post of administrators on May 26 for six months or till the three-tier Panchayat elections. But, now preparations are underway to extend his tenure again. This is giving strength to the speculations in which it was being claimed that despite the order of the High Court, it would not be possible to conduct Panchayat elections in three months. In a media report that surfaced recently, it was said that the Backward Classes Commission, which decides the OBC reservation, had to submit the report by November 20. The survey of 50 out of 75 districts has been completed, while the survey of 25 districts is yet to be done. In such a situation, the Commission may ask for additional time of 3 months.
It was also said in the report that to decide OBC reservation, it is necessary to understand the situation of every district. For this, the Commission has to go to the districts, listen to the people and collate the data collected. It is proving to be a big challenge for the Commission to properly examine the data received from all the districts. It is also being claimed that the report is not likely to come before December 31. Due to delay in the report, it will be challenging to conduct Gram Panchayat elections in the stipulated time.
According to the order of Allahabad High Court, the government and the State Election Commission will have to conduct three-tier Panchayat elections in the state before January 14, which does not seem possible in the current circumstances. It is believed that the Yogi government will either file a review petition in the High Court on this issue or can appeal in the Supreme Court. If sources are to be believed, legal advice has been sought from the Additional Advocate General in this regard in view of the High Court order and the Justice Department will also be consulted. After which the government will take the next step.
