Mumbai: A case has been registered by Shivaji Park against supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) for allegedly holding an unlawful assembly, raising slogans disrupting the smooth flow of traffic and using loudspeakers without permission during a protest on Friday.
Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has been named in the FIR.
CJP supporters held a protest at Shivaji Park on October 2, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over concerns surrounding the Election Commission and India (ECI) and SIR.
According to police, around 400 to 500 unidentified supporters and protesters, including CJP members Dipke, Ajinkya Shinde, Pranay Ahire, Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das, Afreen Nawaz, Soumya Korde, Ankit Bhardwaj, Vijay Malangi and Yogesh Ingale, gathered at Gate No. 6 of the Shivaji Park grounds, in front of the Meenatai Thackeray Memorial in Dadar West.
The gathering began around 2 pm and continued until 7 pm, police said.
The FIR mentioned that the protesters gathered on a public road, obstructed traffic and raised slogans, which led to a law-and-order situation.
It was also alleged that loudspeakers were used to address the gathering without the required permission.
Mumbai Police had earlier denied permission to CJP for the proposed gathering at Shivaji Park, citing restrictions on assemblies at the venue and concerns related to traffic, noise and movement around nearby hospitals.
