‘My time and leave were both wasted…’ Why was this tech professional furious at the Indian recruitment system?

Nowadays, finding a job and giving an interview in private companies is no less than a battle. One such extremely disappointing and shocking case has come to light, where a job applicant has shared his bitter interview experience on the social media platform Reddit. The man has made serious allegations against a company, saying that the company was repeatedly demanding “immediate joiner” candidates, but it was not concerned at all about the candidate’s precious time or his professional commitments.

Anger erupted against ‘recruitment circus’ on social media

This entire story has come to light through a post on the popular subreddit r/developersIndia, which was titled “The absolute audacity of HRs and ‘immediate joiner’ requirements”. In this post, the person has described his mental and professional torture that lasted for a month, in which not taking the interview at the last moment, very poor communication and the double attitude of the company regarding hiring was clearly visible. The angry applicant wrote in clear words that he was really fed up with the recruitment circus going on in this country.

Took leave on company’s demand, but no one came for interview

According to the applicant, he had applied for a post through a renowned job-search and recruitment platform about four weeks ago. A recruiter contacted her soon after she applied. The recruiter stressed that the company is especially looking for such a person who can join the office within the next two weeks.

On this, the applicant showed honesty and made it clear that he was serving a notice period of 60 days in his current job. However, he also expressed hope that this time can be negotiated as he has a buyout option and also has some accrued holidays which can be adjusted. The recruiter agreed to this and scheduled the interview for the very next day.

But the real drama started after this. The candidate claimed that he had taken leave from his current office to appear for the interview and had spent a lot of time preparing, but the manager conducting the interview never came. He had to wait for hours without any information. Disappointed, he wrote that both his leave and time were completely wasted.

Big questions raised on long notice period

The applicant also gave a strong argument on this strange rule of the industry. She said qualified candidates with long notice periods are often completely ignored during recruitment. On the other hand, the notice policy in almost all companies has been made such that it is very difficult for employees to change jobs quickly. In such a situation, insisting on ‘immediate joiner’ is sheer injustice to the candidates.

As soon as the post went viral, people got angry, demand was raised to expose the companies

After being shared on Reddit, this post has quickly gone viral on the internet. Seeing this, thousands of employed people felt pain and many users started sharing their similar bad and bad experiences with recruiters and hiring managers.

Some angry users in the comment section even suggested to publicly reveal the names of such companies on social media, so that other innocent job seekers can be saved from such humiliation. At the same time, some other users have demanded that a separate directory or blacklist should be created to keep an eye on such companies known for “red flags” (fraud or poor behavior) in hiring.
