Namita Thapar slams trolls over Namaz reel: ‘People speak up for Women’s Bill, not for women’

Namita Thapar, the popular entrepreneur who is one of the sharks in the show “Shark Tank India”, has hit back at online trolling after her Instagram reel on the health benefits of Namaz drew widespread criticism. Posted on March 25, around the time of Eid, the video described the practice as “truly incredible” and highlighted its benefits for flexibility and blood circulation.

However, what was meant as a wellness-focused message quickly turned into a polarising debate, with several users questioning her intent and posting critical comments.

Three weeks of relentless abuse

In a follow-up video on X, Thapar revealed the extent of harassment she faced. She said she and her mother were targeted “non-stop” for nearly three weeks after the reel went viral.

She described the experience as deeply disturbing, pointing out that the criticism escalated into personal attacks rather than constructive disagreement.

Defends her content across all religions

Responding to critics, Thapar defended her track record claiming that she has been speaking about multiple faiths.

“I have made several reels on Hindu religious practices and their health benefits. Every Yoga Day, I share videos on asanas, especially Surya Namaskar, and no one said anything then,” she said.

Calling for respect, Thapar said, “I was taught that ‘R for religion’ means ‘R for respect’. Is this how you show respect? Especially towards two women?”

She also referenced the on-going discourse about the Women’s Reservation Bill and Delimitation, adding, “When the Women’s Reservation Bill is not passed, everyone speaks up. But when two women are disrespected like this, why the silence?”

Invokes karma, urges positive voices

Asserting her stance, Thapar said, “No one will speak up for you. You have to speak up for yourself.”

She also invoked a spiritual message, adding, “Hinduism has a concept called karma. God is watching.”

Urging a shift away from negativity, she concluded, “My negative reels have gone very viral. Now make this one go viral.”
