Bihar MLC Election Mahagathbandhan Rift: Ahead of the elections to the 8 seats of the Legislative Council (MLC) to be held in Bihar on October 23, the dispute over seat sharing in the opposition alliance ‘Mahagathbandhan’ has reached a climax. The main constituent parties of the alliance, RJD, Congress and the Left parties have not reached a consensus and the alliance has cracked. In 6 out of 8 seats, the political heat has come as friendly parties have fielded their candidates against each other.
Tripankhio Jang on the Darbhanga teacher’s seat
Darbhanga Teachers Constituency is becoming the center of attraction in this election, where a direct fight is going on between the 3 parties of the Grand Alliance. Current Congress MLC Madan Mohan Jha is contesting from this seat, but RJD associate Kunwar Rai has been fielded against him. Not only this, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has also fielded Ramdev Rai as its candidate and turned this battle into a three-way battle.
Direct contest between RJD and Congress on 3 graduate seats

Voting on October 23
These 8 seats of Bihar Legislative Council consist of 4 graduate and 4 teacher constituencies. Due to the lack of consensus in the distribution of seats, RJD has declared candidates on 7, Congress on 5, CPI on 2 and CPM on 1 seat. According to the announced election programme, the last date for filing nomination papers is October 6 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is October 9. Voting process will be completed on October 23 in all the seats and counting of votes will be done on October 27 and the results will be declared.
