National Film Awards ceremony will be held outside Delhi, know where the 72nd edition will be held…

Read Desk. This year the National Film Awards ceremony will be held outside Delhi. Its 72nd edition will be held on 22 September in Kevadiya, Gujarat. President Draupadi Murmu will give away awards to the winners in this ceremony.

The move is a change from the awards' long-standing association with New Delhi. The first National Film Awards ceremony was held in 1954 at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi, where most of the editions of the ceremony have been held over the years. However, sometimes these awards have also been held outside the national capital. The 17th National Film Awards ceremony was held in Chennai in 1971.

Kevadiya, now officially known as Ekta Nagar, is most famous for the 'Statue of Unity', the world's tallest statue. This 597 feet high memorial dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018. The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were announced in July, including many of the biggest names in Indian cinema.

'Article 370' won the Best Feature Film award, while its lead actress Yami Gautam won the Best Actress award. Malayalam superstar Mammootty and Bollywood actor Kartik Aryan will jointly be given the Best Actor award for their performances in 'Brahmayugam' and 'Chandu Champion' respectively.

Actor-filmmaker Randeep Hooda received the Best Debut Director award for 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar'. The film was based on the life of Hindutva thinker Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and was his directorial debut.

Meanwhile, Telugu science-fiction film 'Kalki 2898 AD' won the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Tamil film 'Captain Miller' directed by Arun Matheswaran and starring Dhanush won the award for the best feature film promoting national, social and environmental values.
