Sunayana Sonwane/Pune: ‘Doctor So treating patients and soldier So to be always ready for national service, this double responsibility now rests on your shoulders. You have the honor of wearing the white coat and uniform of the Indian Armed Forces. Therefore, maintain discipline, honesty, sensitivity and sense of service along with professional skills and give the highest priority to the national interest,’ urged the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Service (AFMS), Surgeon Vice Admiral Aarti Sarin.
The convocation ceremony of the 60th batch of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) was held with enthusiasm at the Captain Devashish Sharma Kirti Chakra Parade Ground on Friday. During this time, 141 medical graduates were commissioned as officers in the Armed Forces Medical Service. This includes 112 officers from the Indian Army, 12 from the Navy and 17 from the Air Force.
Director and Commandant of AFMC Lieutenant General Pankaj P. Rao, Deputy Commandant Major General Atul Seth along with senior officers, faculty, parents were present. Vice Admiral Sarin accepted the salute. Although the medical field is increasingly using modern technologies like robotics, precision medicine, genomics, digital health and artificial intelligence, there is no substitute for humanity, empathy and compassion towards patients. Sarin said that technology is a tool and the role of a sensitive doctor will always be important.

President’s Gold Medal to Ananya Phadke of Pune
Flying Officer Ananya Phadke of Pune was awarded President’s Gold Medal and Kalinga Trophy as the best all-round student in the convocation. He chose AFMC as he wanted to serve in the army while pursuing a career in the medical field. ‘There was no military background in my family. But along with becoming a doctor, he also wanted to join the army. So decided to take admission in AFMC,’ said Ananya. Chant the life mantra ‘Service over selfishness’
