A large part of the road collapsed after heavy rains
The incident happened on the main road near Lucknow University. It is feared that a large part of the road suddenly collapsed as the soil beneath the road was washed away due to heavy rains. As the road caved in, there was a huge pothole and in no time the entire road became a hazard for traffic.
The depth of this pit is said to be approximately 10 to 12 feet. The crater was so wide that even a motorcycle was completely engulfed in it.

Questioning the quality of the capital’s roads
The incident has raised serious questions about road maintenance and pre-monsoon preparations in a big city like Lucknow. A 10- to 12-feet deep pothole in a busy area like the university amid claims that the roads in the capital are in good condition has sparked a debate on the system’s performance.
Locals are questioning why the concerned departments did not take notice of the road till it became so poor and timely inspections and repairs were not carried out.
At present, the work of securing the road is going on by the team of police and city corporation. However, the incident has once again raised major questions about the quality of the city’s roads, drainage system and preparedness of the city’s infrastructure during heavy rains.
