Navi Mumbai Airport Strengthens Ground Connectivity with 4,689 Vehicles Ahead of Winter Flight Schedule

Mumbai, Oct 6: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is strengthening its ground transport network ahead of the upcoming winter flight schedule, expanding passenger mobility services to 4,689 vehicles across taxis, buses, car rentals and autorickshaws.

The expansion, being implemented by Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), is aimed at providing passengers with smoother and more convenient connections to and from the airport as flight operations increase during the winter schedule, which runs from October 25, 2026, to March 27, 2027.

The expanded transport network includes 3,787 app-based taxis, 547 buses, 184 car rental vehicles and 171 autorickshaws. The airport is also adding mobility signage, wayfinding systems and on-ground assistance to make passenger movement easier.

Dedicated areas have been created for buses, shuttles, arrivals, departures and private vehicles, helping streamline traffic and reduce confusion during peak periods.

Wider bus connectivity

Public transport connectivity is also being expanded. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) currently operates seven dedicated airport routes, connecting Terminal 1 with Kharkopar, Targhar, Belapur, Nerul, Panvel, Khandeshwar and the Airport Project Office.

During peak hours, bus services between Belapur and Nerul operate at intervals of around 15 to 20 minutes, providing an additional option for passengers travelling to the airport.

Private operator Chalo Bus operates 21 daily services linking NMIA with key locations including Marol in Andheri East, Bandra, Dadar and the World Trade Centre in Colaba.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is also set to introduce e-Shivai electric bus services from the airport from October 7. The services will connect NMIA with major destinations such as Pune, Borivali and Dadar East.

More options for passengers

Taxi services from Bharat Taxi, Uber Go and Uber Premier will operate through designated airport pickup zones.

The airport will also offer a complimentary hourly shuttle service operated by Cityflo, Aarya and Chalo, connecting Navi Mumbai International Airport with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).

Rail connectivity is another important part of the airport’s wider transport network. Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 is already operational in the region, while Mumbai Metro Line 8 has been proposed to connect NMIA with CSMIA.

Supporting the airport’s expansion

The launch phase of Navi Mumbai International Airport is designed to handle around 20 million passengers annually, along with 0.5 million tonnes of cargo capacity.

With flight operations expected to expand, the strengthening of road, bus, taxi and rail connectivity is aimed at creating a more integrated transport ecosystem around the airport.

The expanded ground mobility network is expected to improve passenger access while supporting the airport’s role as an important aviation and logistics hub for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

As NMIA moves into the winter flight schedule, the focus on multimodal connectivity is expected to make travel more convenient and strengthen links between the airport and major residential, commercial and transport hubs across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
