Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to offer airlines a major financial incentive to launch international services from the newly operational airport. Aviation tariff regulator AERA has approved a revised incentive plan under which airlines operating new international routes from Navi Mumbai will get a complete waiver on aircraft landing charges during the first year.
The move is aimed at encouraging airlines to introduce more international flights and build stronger global connectivity from the new airport.
International Landing Charges Waived For One Year
Under the revised Variable Tariff Plan, airlines launching international passenger routes from Navi Mumbai International Airport will not have to pay landing charges during the first year of operation.
The incentive applies to both short-haul and long-haul international routes.
Short-haul routes are those covering distances of up to 5,000 kilometres, while routes beyond 5,000 kilometres are classified as long-haul.
The landing charge concession will continue beyond the first year, although at reduced levels.
Discounts Continue In The Second And Third Years
For short-haul international routes, airlines will receive a 50% discount on landing charges during the second year.
For long-haul routes, the discount will be 50% in the second year and 25% in the third year.

More Benefits For Additional Flights
Airlines increasing the frequency of existing international services from Navi Mumbai will also receive incentives.
Additional international frequencies will receive a 50% discount for short-haul services and a 75% discount for long-haul services during the first year.
International cargo operators will receive an even larger incentive. Freighter services will get a 90% waiver on landing charges in the first year, followed by a 50% discount in the second year.
Existing Mumbai Routes Can Also Qualify
One of the biggest changes is the revision of the eligibility criteria.
Earlier, an international route had to be new to the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region to qualify for the incentive. This meant that if a particular destination was already served from Mumbai airport, an airline launching the same destination from Navi Mumbai could not qualify.
The revised rules change this approach.
Now, a route can qualify as a new international route if it is being introduced from Navi Mumbai, even when the same destination is already connected to Mumbai airport.
Why Navi Mumbai Airport Needs More International Flights
Navi Mumbai International Airport began commercial operations in December 2025, while international services started in July 2026 with an Air India Express flight to Abu Dhabi.
