Directed by Balaji Mohan, Nayyi Navelli brings a unique blend of family comedy, horror, and socio-fantasy to the screen.
Starring Yami Gautam Dhar as Mohini alongside an ensemble cast including Addinath M. Kothare, Mita Vashisht, and Sunita Rajwar, the film explores the mythological shadows of the Ramayana within a domestic setting in Meerut.
The film opens with an animated retelling of the Ramayana, setting up an engaging premise where a troubled family welcomes Mohini, whose arrival mysteriously resolves their deepest problems.
While her brother-in-law remains suspicious—raising the core question of whether she possesses supernatural powers—the first half shines brightly. Buoyed by sharp comic timing, lighthearted family dynamics, and Yami Gautam’s commanding screen presence, the initial stretches keep viewers entertained.
However, Nayyi Navelli struggles to sustain its momentum in the second half. The transition from comedy to a serious supernatural drama feels predictable, and the screenplay fails to give Yami’s character sufficient depth.
While Addinath M. Kothare delivers a standout performance balancing menace and affection, the narrative’s familiar good-versus-evil conflict dilutes its impact. Ultimately, despite a promising concept and notable performances, Nayyi Navelli ends up as an uneven entertainer that falls short of its full potential.
