Additional Director General Vishal Bansal told ANI that investigators are examining the widespread circulation of the material through coaching institutes and WhatsApp groups. Authorities also stated that more than 100 questions from Biology and Chemistry sections showed striking similarities with the final paper.

Officials believe the student shared the material with an associate in Rajasthan’s Sikar district on May 1. From there, the document reportedly spread among students staying in paying guest accommodations before reaching larger coaching networks and WhatsApp groups.

Police sources revealed that several recovered chats carried the “forwarded many times” label, suggesting large-scale circulation nearly 42 hours before the examination.

Investigators also alleged that the handwritten document was sold for as much as ₹5 lakh two days before the exam. Reports later suggested the price dropped to nearly ₹30,000 on the eve of the test.

Probe Expands Across States

The NEET exam cancelled controversy has now expanded into a multi-state investigation involving Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. By May 11, authorities had detained 13 suspects from Dehradun, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu.

Officials linked to the investigation told news agencies that the similarities between the guess paper and actual exam could account for nearly 600 marks out of the total 720.

Students and parents have demanded transparency and stricter safeguards for future competitive examinations after the cancellation sparked anxiety across the country.
